Movie Night

I had my projector from work with me tonight. With Justine out at a meeting Mattias and I decided to have a movie night. Shhhh, don't tell.

Playing with Photoshop Elements

Playing with a trial version of PSE 8. Same image in previous post but made the photo black & white except for the street car.

Olympic Line

This week VANOC opened the Olympic Line, a street car line from the Olympic Village to Granville Island. They had street cars on loan from Brussels. They were certainly nice with leather seats and wood trim. I expect Vancouver will purchase some street cars in the future.

Granville Island

We had a really good family today at Granville Island. We did the usual activities, eating lunch, getting tea, watching the buskers, playing in the playground, and of course visiting the kids area with all the toy stores.

Curled tongue

Today Justine shockingly remarked "Look what Mattias can do!!, that is weird." Justine cannot curl her tongue but Mattias and I can. Most comments have been Mattias looks like Justine but it is nice to see some of my genes showing. ;-)

Are we there yet?

Today we had the first experience of the kids' mantra "Are we there yet?" followed by our response "No". It was funny at first but soon got tiring. Later in the day Mattias was playing by himself and singing in repetition "Are we there yet, no".

Ruskin Dam

This week I went into the field with one of my engineers for a civil construction audit at the Ruskin Dam site. The reservoirs are full now and Ruskin had a couple of the spill gates open which is pretty spectacular to watch.

Grandma's Birthday

We had a seafood feast for Anne's birthday, had red curried mussels and sweet chilli crab. Sorry I have no pictures of me letting the crab run around the kitchen floor, Justine was not impressed. ;-)

Mattias helped me pick out the mussels and crabs earlier in the day. He helped me clean the mussels, in the one picture you can see see him helping remove the beards from the mussels.

Later in the evening Mattias entertained us with his break dancing. He is always asking for Michael Jackson's "Beat it" so he can dance. He is really good for a 3 year old and is creating his own moves.

Artoo & Threepio

Here is a picture of R2D2 and C3PO Mattias drew last month. Pretty good for a 3 year old.

Saturday Morning Fun

We had fun playing with Mattias' Cars ramp. Here we have Ramone, Mater, and Dinoco McQueen jumping through the ring of fire.

Light-saber fun

I picked up a light-saber keychain for Mattias ($2). It has been a lot of fun. One night we were playing with long exposures.

Mattias made the funny pages

Had a good chuckle when I saw this. This is so us.

Mattias' First Day of Skiing

Today Mattias tried skiing for the first time. Mattias found the boots "too big" and awkward to walk on but once we got the skis on, he loved it. He went about 4 ft on his own on a very gradual hill and the first thing he said was "more!!" We did about 6 runs down the bunny slope. He kept saying "I go fast", "not scary" and "again, again". He really enjoyed the rope tow but it was hard for me to keep my grip on the rope with one hand. I worked on him getting the feel of the skis running on the snow and getting him to stand up (weight on the skis). Since I was supporting him under his arms he tended to let me hold him up.

Today showed me how out of shape I am. I was so winded carrying him around. We did a run down one of the longer runs to an actual ski lift. I got to the bottom and my legs were so fatigued from snow-plowing the whole run and the darn lift was uphill from the end of the run. :-( Not fun. The day was tiring for Mattias as well. He was asleep in about 5 minutes during the drive home.

We are so happy he enjoyed it, time for me to get in better shape for next time.

No pictures of us skiing but here are the tuckered skiers.
